Leadership and loyalty

Donor recognition societies

Virginia Commonwealth University is one of the top urban public research universities in the nation, and our ability to transform the lives of our students, patients, faculty, staff and community members depends on the continued support of friends like you.

On behalf of all who learn, work, discover and heal at VCU, we thank our donors for their support. To show our appreciation, we recognize our most loyal and generous donors with membership in several donor recognition societies. Members receive unique courtesies, such as special donor communications, invitations to exclusive donor events and more.

For more information on VCU’s donor recognition societies, contact Jenn Papenfuse (M.P.A.’06/GPA; Cert.’06/GPA), senior director of donor engagement.

Universitywide societies

Black & Gold Loyalty Society recognizes donors who have made gifts to VCU for three or more consecutive years — from our newest members, who are just beginning their lifelong commitment to annual giving, to our lifetime supporters, who have given to the university for 35 or more years. Gifts of any amount to any area of the university are counted toward society inclusion. Consecutive years of giving are counted by fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30. Nearly 6,000 loyal donors make up this society, contributing more than $30 million annually to help the university carry out its mission of excelling as a premier public research university focused on academic success, community engagement, research and scholarly productivity.

President’s Club recognizes the annual leadership giving of individuals whose gifts total $5,000 or more during one fiscal year (July 1-June 30). President’s Club members demonstrate their dedication to VCU’s vision and values through their annual giving, which provides critical funding to advance universitywide initiatives and support students, faculty members, university staff, health professionals and patients across VCU and VCU Health.

Founders’ Society honors the most generous and engaged supporters of the university and health system. Founders’ Society members are individuals who have made cumulative commitments of $100,000 or more to the university or its associated foundations.

Planned giving societies

The Heritage Society on the Monroe Park Campus, the Medical College of Virginia Society on the MCV Campus and the Lawrence Society at VCU Massey Cancer Center recognize individuals who have made estate or planned gifts for the benefit of the university and health system in wills, revocable trusts, retirement plans, life insurance policies, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts and charitable lead trusts. If you have included the university in your estate plan or made a planned gift that will benefit VCU, please let us know so that we may include you in this important association of VCU legacy donors. Contact Ann Deppman, assistant vice president of gift planning.

Recognition societies across VCU

Across the Monroe Park and MCV campuses, the colleges, schools and VCU Massey Cancer Center have their own donor recognition societies:
